“It is not a slight thing when those so fresh from God love us.” –Charles Dickens
It is not that heaven is every any less real in actuality, it is only that there are times when it feels so far away. But there are times when it feels both immanent and imminent.
Heaven felt very close when I finally got to meet and hold each of my baby girls, so “fresh from God,” so beautifully and wonderfully made by the Creator. It is, as Charles Dickens says, no slight thing to be loved by those little human beings.
Heaven feels very close today as we celebrate the life of a saint who lived on earth, someone whose hand we could touch just a week ago, but who now lives in heaven.
I have been mired down in the tangible worries of the world this week but the worship service to memorialize Pat DeMeo helped me set my gaze heavenward. I return again to the words of Colossians 3.
“Seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on the things that are on Earth”
